I'll start bitching about the prices you have for new vehicles. The new, most basic Mustang (V6, RWD, Manual, close to 260hp I guess? 300+ hp!) starts at 23,600$, or 17,391€. What would that kind of money get you over here? It gets you a bloody Golf.

Not any Golf though. You get a white, two door with an out of date 5 speed manual a whopping 86hp and no box ticked. Which makes the Mustang seem like the bargain of the century. So the next time you declare Europe wagon dream land and hatchback heaven, think about a) gas prices and b) the lack of bang for the buck we get in exchange.

You're right, however, do keep in mind that the price in € you quoted is including sales tax while US prices are excluding taxes. So let's assume we can at least get a 1.2 TSI golf with a few boxes ticked for the price of a US market base Mustang.

Simply said we've got choice but high prices, they lack choice but do have low prices. There's no best of both worlds.

Below is based on UK prices and duties.

The CO2 Emissions (g/km) for the Mustang at 180g/km it would be USD$585 (GBP£345) VED (Vehicle Excise Duty, essentially road tax) per year, while the VW would be VED exempt due to being less than 130g/km to drive on a British road.

Also the Mustangs V6 (taking into account US Gallons to UK Gallons) is doing 15USmpg (18UKmpg) - 26USmpg (31UKmpg) to the VW 1.2TSi's 47USmpg (57UKmpg) and at USD$2.20 (GBP£1.30) per litre of petrol.

In the end it's all swings and roundabouts.

People also make a lot less money over here, and don't get certain services for free. Taxes are lower too...etc. Everything is cheaper in America, but if you don't succeed you're SOL. The only place I've been to in Europe with similar prices for food and things of that nature is the Czech Republic, and it was still more expensive than over here.

Yes, it's never apples to apples. For a quick comparison, the minimum wage in the UK for people over 21 converts to $10.71. It varies by state in the U.S., but the federal minimum is $7.25. Of course, that's currently a hot button topic, and it's about to jump in some states and some sectors. But even then, the upper limit (outside of Sn Fran) is around $10.

180 g/km for the Mustang? That would result in €10.8k in gas guzzler tax in the Netherlands. The 1.2 TSI Golf officially has 113 g/km here, resulting in €2.6k gas guzzler tax. What engine is that 180 g/km for, the Ecoboost?

€18.5k in the Netherlands. Like I mentioned in another reply, this is including sales tax and €2.6k in CO2 (gas guzzler) tax. It is however excluding a suggested fee (suggested €850 according to VW.nl) to get the car ready for driving, whatever that means. Probably a full tank of fuel and thorough cleaning.

That was the 3.7 V6 (being the only emissions I could find and was only stated as '3.7L V6'), all of the specs I've looked at have no CO2 emissions for the manual or the automatic, standard and eco-boost.

That V6 is irrelevant for us I believe. Only the Ecoboost 4 cylinder and the V8 are coming here if I recall correctly. It is relevant for the comparison of prices between continents though.

"Order books for the new 2014 Ford Mustang open on May 24. The muscle car will be sold officially in the UK – and in right-hand-drive form – for the first time ever, with the new Mustang developed with the European audience in mind. Reflecting this is the opening of order books during the 2014 Champions League final, European football's biggest event. From the initial batch of 500 cars, 130 will come to the UK.

The new car

will feature a range of engines, starting with a 304bhp 2.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine replacing the old V6, and the all-important 5.0-litre V8 model topping the range (ahead of any hotter Shelby versions) with 420bhp. The 307bhp V6 engine will however remain to be offered in the US in the cheapest and most basic models. In traditional muscle car style, all engines drive the rear wheels.

A manual gearbox will remain standard, with a paddleshift automatic transmission

optional, while Ford rumoured to be working on a ten-speed automatic transmission for the future.

Perhaps the biggest and most significant news is that the sixth-generation Mustang gains a new rear suspension

setup, which finally sees the back of the traditional live axle. In its place will be a thoroughly more up-to-date 'integral-link' independent suspension setup.

Ford has also redesigned the front suspension setup to match, with a new stiff lightweight subframe, and double ball-joint MacPherson strut setup. To help reduce unsprung mass, Ford has also employed the use of aluminium for some components.

All European models will come with high performance brakes and 19in alloy wheels as standard, and Ford is confident that the new Mustang will be much better suited to European roads than its predecessor.

For the first time, Ford will also offer launch control on the models ordered with a manual gearbox, as well as a number of other electrical driver aids and a torque vectoring system. There will be selectable driving modes adjusting steering and throttle response and stability control settings.

UK prices for the new Mustang have not yet been confirmed, although a ballpark figure of £30,000 has been rumoured for entry level models, which would pitch the new four-cylinder version directly at its most comparable modern muscle car rival – the 326bhp Nissan 370Z. It should make for an intriguing twin-test when we get the opportunity…"

Not anymore I'd say. And you can't even buy one in the UK or up North because the VRT will kill you. There was a Ford GT for sale a year ago with 2,000 miles on the clock and it had never been registered. My dad went up to look at it and realised he would have to pay 60 grand on registering it alone. He walked out crying.
Meanwhile in My world , I never spend more then 2,000 euro on a car.
